Fault
Passenger seat occupancy (weight) sensor. Inside the seat is a module and a circuit-board-style weight pad that measures occupant weight so the airbag system can set deployment behaviour. These pads and modules fail often — especially when the pad is not stuck flat and folds, breaking the flexible circuit.
Repair options
- Replace the occupancy seat sensor with new or good used parts.
- Replace the sensor with a suitable emulator (where legal / appropriate for the vehicle).
- Do nothing — and accept the SRS warning and insurance implications if the system is compromised.
We prefer a proper repair that clears the SRS fault correctly. Call if your ML has a persistent passenger airbag light.
